Annika (Roots series)

oil and acrylic on canvas

24 x 36 in.

In this piece, the model wears a typical outfit worn by women for graduation in Sweden. In Sweden, graduates typically dress in white and wear sailors caps. The caps can be customized with the name of the student and the name of their high school. Classmates sign the inside of the cap during graduation. The model wears gifts around her neck that are traditionally given to graduates, such as candy and toys. This outfit is personally significant to the model because of her Swedish heritage, and it is a special memory of her time during her gap year at a Swedish high school.
